minimalisma was born from two ideas: the softness and purity of clothing for the smallest children, and a minimalist approach to design. Originally created for babies aged 0–2, the name begins with mini — a nod to those earliest years of life, when comfort and quality matter most.

Minimalism reflects our core design philosophy: to create timeless, seasonless pieces that are both simple and enduring. Clean silhouettes, natural materials, and a quiet confidence that
speaks through craftsmanship, not excess.

The final touch — minimalisma — reflects our Faroese roots. In the Faroese language, minimalism is written minimalisma, and with that gentle linguistic shift, the name became uniquely ours: a blend of Nordic heritage, thoughtful design, and an enduring love for simplicity.

Behind the Zürich-based brand is founder and creative director Maja Akraberg — a Faroese-Danish fashion professional and mother of two. With a deep appreciation for Nordic design, natural materials, and quiet simplicity, she founded Minimalisma in 2011 to offer timeless essentials for children and women, made with care and purpose.

    The idea was sparked during her first summer in Switzerland, when a long-time friend and supplier visited and gifted a piece of silk for her baby daughter. That simple gesture, combined with Maja’s longing to dress her child in soft, natural fibers, planted the seed for minimalisma.

  • A Nordic Heritage Brand

    Maja’s connection to textiles runs deep. Raised in the smallest capital in the world — on a small volcanic archipelago in the North Atlantic — she grew up surrounded by wild nature and the quiet rhythm of handmade things. Her mother, a skilled knitter, dressed her in fine hand-knitted wool sweaters and dresses. That spirit of care, quality, and heritage remains the soul of minimalisma today.
